By now, I've just about had it with snow.
I moved from sunny California to seasonal Pennsylvania (I
know, don't get me started!) and this winter turned out to
be the worst winter in years! I'm getting pretty
gosh-darned tired of having everyone walk up to me and
tell me how, "all the winters before this were so
mild." SHUT UP!!
Ok, so I'm dealing with it, and hopefully
so are you, wherever you live. We've weathered the effects of El
Nino's, survived floods, shoveled the snow and slogged
through enough mud and slush to last a lifetime. If you're like me,
you've been wishing for Spring and dreaming of Summer
since Christmas! Sometimes, I think it's the only
thing that has kept me sane through this long, LONG winter.
Soon it will truly be Spring...dear god, I pray (is it
snowing AGAIN?!). Let me hang in there just a little
longer!
I shouldn't complain really. After
all, on the Internet, we do have the added luxury of
traveling to "virtual" worlds. With the click of
a mouse, we can call up dreamy vacations of tropical
beaches, sunny wildflower meadows or tall deep forests of
green. Staying online this winter helped see me through
the bleakest days. (OK, there was that time we lost power
due to the storms and I couldn't connect but the
withdrawal symptoms didn't last.)
Enough about winter already! To celebrate
the beautiful season of Spring and the coming Summer
(hurry! hurry!) let's take a look at some of the sites that
kept me sane.
First off, in honor of Mother's
Day, have the kiddos surf in to this site for plenty
of stuff to make your special day bright. While they're
doing that, you can sneak off for a nap!
If you're REALLY bored, what do you do? If
you've ever found yourself reading how others solve their
problems and want more, how about trying the Official Dear
Abby site? Come on, admit it! You can't help yourself, you
read her column once in a while (Ok, ok - every day!). For
more Abby, surf over and enjoy the free advice (or snicker
at the poor losers!).
If you're stuck indoors, you may as well
make the most of it. Reading and books are very big at my
home. We all know about Amazon.com - they're great. But
here is a well-kept secret - Book
Close Outs! It's one of my favorite sites to find
cheap books for myself or for gifts (Shhh! Don't tell my
friends how little I paid for their birthday presents!).
Women have a tendency to nurture their
families, friends, homes, careers and more, while
neglecting to nurture ourselves. Want to dream about
getting out or really go there? Don't waste time putting
your dreams on the 'back burner'; find some really cool
trips to take and new activities to try at Retreats
for Women, owned and operated by a woman! Now that's
fun!
And speaking of fun - it's time for me to
sign off so I can get back online and find some more
goodies for you next month. Maybe I'll just take a quick
peek in the Techgirls Chatroom and see if there's a friend
or two chatting. Another great thing about the Internet?
There's NO SNOW online!
